Pk's pie fail

Never try to make a pumpkin pie at 11pm at night while exhausted.

A pumpkin pie burned black and crusty on top

There was a Thanksgiving potluck at work today (USA Thanksgiving is weekend after next) and I attempted to make sure there would be at least one gluten-free dessert available. Clearly I shouldn't have bothered.

A pumpkin pie with the blackened top scraped off, revealing chunky insides and a raw bottom crust

The bottom crust was raw.

When Shashigai checked the oven afterwards, it was set to "warm". Judging by the pie and the smoke, what I actually did was broil it for 45 minutes. I must have been too asleep on my feet to even notice that when I took the pie out, I changed it from broil to warm.

A falling-apart slice of pumpkin pie, with the burned part scraped off the top, frying in a skillet

Shashigai is currently frying a piece to see if that will make the bottom crust edible. My hopes are not high.

Hahahahaha! One time I accidentally broiled a loaf of pumpkin bread until it burst into flames. This wasn't even my faulty oven with the numbers on the knob backwards at my last place (ah, memories of things accidentally bursting into flames that shouldn't have :P), it was a different oven that had a loose knob that could get twisted around to show completely different settings from what it was actually on.

Pumpkin brick!

Our toaster oven where I was baking this pie is kind of like that. It comes out a much lower temperature than it actually shows, so I had this thing cranked up to 425 even though the recipie says bake the last half hour at 350. I'm sure that didn't help matters.

We remember those poor fish.

Wait is this actually what happened or are you trying to cover for the fact that you tried to cook pie using superpowers and failed.

I knew it.

I got my own pie fail here. 47 says it tastes confused.

I'd say it's less of a fail and more just... really weird. It doesn't taste bad, all the elements are good, it just can't seem to decide what it wants to be when they're all put together.

See? Poor confused pie. I made it and now I'm responsible for it, and it will never grow up and know what it wants to do with its life. ;_; I totally created a pie tragedy.

It actually looks kind of yummy. Lime and peanut butter, right? I forget what else you put in it. I bet butterscotch would be good. Those look like butterscotch chips.

It's got a graham cracker crust, pumpkin muffin mix in the bottom, then the green stuff is pistachio pudding which tastes way like almonds instead and the ingredients said mostly almonds XD and then reeses peanutbutter chips on top. So yeah Pumpkin Pistachio Pudding Peanutbutter Pie.

Now I want to try making lime peanutbutter pie to see if it's good.
